Upcoming:

What is a Loppet?” you ask… This term comes from Scandinavia and refers to a long-distance cross-country skiing event that brings together a large gathering of skiers. Some Loppets include a race, but not all. The common thread among Loppets is that they are festive events, with the focus being on community, love of skiing, and refreshments! Costumes are encouraged, as is hilarity.

Ours will be held if snow conditions permit – otherwise we will try again next year. As of February 26 the snow conditions are good, so save the date and start working on your costume, if that’s your jam.

Stay tuned for more!

Past Events:

Winter Blast 2026 – February 21

We co-sponsored this event with Challis Public Library, with the Library providing delicious refreshments. This was Big Hill Nordic’s big get together and fund raiser for the season. We had fantastic weather and snow conditions, despite the snow drought in the West this year! Erin Zell and Don Shepler, two fantastic ski instructors, came over from Smiley Creek to provide free ski instruction clinics. We had about 8 skiers, including adults and children, take part in the lessons and a great time was had by all. Overall, we had about 40 people at the gathering, many of whom skied out to enjoy the trails.

Spring Fling 2025 – March 22

Spring Fling 2025 was a celebration of the first season of Big Hill Nordic. The weather wasn’t cooperative – a wild wind storm at the ski trails forced us down to a lower elevation, but fun was had anyway! We had food (soups/chilis and homemade cookies and treats), a raffle (scroll down for flyer) with great prizes from The Bent Rod, Galena Lodge, Sauce, SIMBA, Odd Fellows Bakery, and more, and a great time socializing. There was even an appearance by Oskar, the giant Big Hill Nordic ski bunny!
