Welcome to the 2025-2026 Ski Season!
1/12/2026 – Trails were groomed on 1/10/26. The upper part of Bee Line, Zip Line, Pookie Bear, and The Bear are skiing great for both skate and classic. There were some issues grooming the lower trails (Ben’s, Wapiti, Haulin’ Aspen) but they should be in good shape at least for classic. The first mile of Bee Line from the parking lot was a bit chewed up and narrow on Sunday, but Thad was planning to go up today and work on smoothing and widening it. There will also be a major grooming tomorrow, 1/13. Stay tuned!
1/6/2026 – Ben and David groomed today. All trails were rolled except for Upper and Lower Ben’s (ran out of time) and Haulin’ Aspen (still waiting for a tad more snow). Bee Line and Zip Line were track set for classic. Groomed trails should be skiing well for classic and skate. Next grooming is scheduled for Saturday. We hope to get Haulin’ Aspen open then, and do some more track setting.
1/4/2026 – No grooming today. Conditions are good – about an inch of new snow on top of yesterday’s grooming made for lovely classic skiing. Skating was a bit slow but doable. Next grooming is planned for tomorrow 1/5/26 assuming conditions permit and the grooming elves can make it. Stay tuned!
1/3/2026 – Today Ben rolled all the trails again and track set Bee Line and Zip Line with the drag. This was the first grooming since 12/27 because of warm wet conditions that made grooming a bad idea.
12/27/2026 – First grooming of the season! Very cold and windy and a thin snowpack. Thad and Ben got most of the trails packed with the roller. We only managed to track set a section of Bee Line, for various reasons. It’s a start!

2025 Reports – for posterity!
3/21/2025 — Final grooming before the Spring Fling! The trails are in great shape. Thanks for a fantastic first season! We were so excited to see so many of you out enjoying the trails. See you in December!
3/17/2025 — What better way to spend St. Patrick’s Day than grooming trails? Celia did get the snowmobile stuck once when she ventured off the previously groomed track, but other than that all went well and the trails are in epic condition thanks to the new snow. Get out there and enjoy!
3/16/2025 — Ben and Celia, aka, the elves of grooming, skied Bee Line to Roybal’s Roost with our shovels today and did some repair work where the truck got stuck earlier this season and then a huge round of shoveling opening up the road where it was drifting in at the big meadows. Whew! Team work makes the dream work… We will be back tomorrow afternoon to groom.

3/9/2025 — David and Bryan did a great job grooming all of the trails. There are a few thin patches but by and large the snow is holding up great.
3/6/2025 — The Dude and Jackrabbit groomed today. Big Hill picked up a few inches of new snow and Bee Line and Lower Ben’s are groomed to perfection. Upper Ben’s is a little rough but skiable on classic/BC skis. The snow is holding up well despite the recent warm weather and we should be in good shape for the 3/22 Spring Fling barring super warm temps.

2/27/2025 – Todd and David ventured out today and were able to groom and track set everything. It should be skiing well for skate and classic going into the weekend. Whether grooming occurs on Sunday or not will depend on the condition of the Custer Motorway and the temperatures.
2/25/2025 – Wow, just wow! Thanks to Custer Tel’s donation of snowcat time and Ray’s mad snowcat operator skills, the groomed road is back in great shape! Ray was able to knock down all the snow drifts – which were surreal this morning after the latest wind/snow event – and widen out the road with the blade on the snowcat. He followed that up with grooming the road with the roller using the snowcat to tow it, setting a nice corduroy track. On Thursday our volunteer groomers will hopefully be able to groom and track set the trail sections, and set a classic track on the road – barring any wild weather events. Huge shoutout to Custer Tel and Ray for the grooming assistance!
2/20/2025 — Mother Nature has been having a bit of a hissy fit! Thanks to the high winds there has been a lot of drifting snow. As a result, the first 100 yards or so of the road looks as if we’re trying to groom it as a terrain park… So you may want to just walk that stretch if in doubt. After that the grooming is good for classic with a nice classic track set by the groomers today. The road is now a bit narrow for skate skiing because at the moment we can’t get our roller through that initial drifted-in section. We’re hoping that Custer Tel may have bandwidth next week to beat the drifts into submission with their snow cat. Stay tuned! In the meantime bring your classic skis and enjoy the beautiful snow!
2/16/2025 — Pat and Jamie groomed yesterday in anticipation of the long weekend. The road is groomed for skate and classic and the trail loop is groomed for classic – perhaps skate as well if you keep it narrow. Send a comment on the Contact Us page here, or on the CCTA Facebook page, if you have a good ski! Feedback will be important in continuing the project next season.
2/12/2025 — Ben and Tim, aka “the Dude” and “MacGyver”, groomed today in the nippy temperatures. Go team! Grooming was wildly successful, with all of Ben’s (the off-road loop) being track set for classic for the first time this season and the road groomed for skate and classic. Where the stuck truck was extricated earlier this week there’s a bit of gravel on the groomed road, so slow down unless you’ve been wanting to stone grind your skis. But other than that no major issues with tire ruts etc. Get up there and have some fun!
2/10/2025 — The grooming elves worked their magic yesterday! The road section is groomed and track set and skiing well for both classic and skate. The trail sections are skier-groomed, and should be in good shape for classic/BC nordic. The grooming team hesitated to pack those trails so as not to get the snowmobiles stuck. The Thursday groomers will give it a go so we don’t end up behind the curve when more new snow arrives. Enjoy!
2/7/2025 – OK, stop doing your snow dances already! 🤣 Yesterday Custer Tel came out with their snowcat and track packed all the new snow on the road. Huge thanks to Custer Tel, as that saved us an enormous amount of work!! We then groomed the road section and set a nice classic track, and track packed the trail sections by snowmobile. As of yesterday evening the road was in great shape for skate and classic, and the trail sections for careful classic or BC nordic skiing. Last night it snowed, and our guess is that there is about 10″ of new snow on top of the grooming. Next grooming will be on Sunday. We will see how well we can deal with that much new snow with the equipment we have available to us. Stay tuned! At least we have a good base now!
2/4/2025 — Grooming did not occur on Sunday due to a number of factors including safety of our team and equipment and cooperation with Chipmunk Ski Hill. We are planning to track pack the trails (pack the new snow) in the next few days and then groom as scheduled on Thursday. Even with the new snow conditions may be less than idea for the first 0.7 mile or so of trail due to incursions by wheeled vehicles, but beyond that conditions are expected to be spectacular after we groom Thursday. Stay tuned!
1/31/2025 — Yesterday the groomed road section was extended a bit further up the Big Hill Road, to provide a longer out and back ski. Grooming on the road is good for skate or classic. We had another truck attempt to drive the road after we groomed, again turning around about a half mile from the parking. We expect that the upcoming snow storm will discourage drivers. Next grooming is on Sunday, hopefully with some new snow to groom!
1/27/2025 — Yesterday we groomed the road to the clearing (1.5 miles from the parking) and another half mile or so beyond that. Grooming is good for both skate and classic. It was track-set all the way, until a pickup truck decided to drive the road right after we finished. Not sure how far they got but likely not too far. The larger trail loop (“Ben’s”) is groomed and track set for classic (a bit narrow for skate) below the road and snowmobile packed above the road. Hoping to get the section above the road groomed and track set on Thursday. Also hoping for more snow! Once we get more snow at the parking elevation that should take care of the problem of vehicles trying to drive the road.
1/24/2025 — The Big Hill Road to the trails is groomed for skate and is skiable on classic skis (we have not track set it for classic yet but it is smooth and packed). The trails have not yet been groomed due to lack of snow – we have track packed them by snowmobile. We will be heading up again on Sunday and will see if we can get part of the trail system groomed and track set. Stay tuned!
1/20/2025 — We have a schedule put together for our volunteer groomers. Grooming will be on Thursdays and Sundays as long as we have snow to groom. We have done some test grooming on the very thin snowpack and we’re ready to hit the ground running once Mother Nature cooperates. Do your best snow dance!
11/27/2024 — Check back soon! We plan to start grooming as soon as there is sufficient snow on Big Hill!
